The History of Italian Sausage

Italian sausage, also known as salsiccia in Italy, has famous origins in the heel of southern Italy. Since each region of Italy has its own recipe for local sausage variations, there’s no “perfect” way to prepare Italian sausage or to serve it. However, Italian sausage is usually prepared with ground pork and fennel seed with a variety of herbs. At Giolitti’s Delicatessen and Marketplace, our Italian sausage is made locally in Baltimore with our authentic, long-lived recipe.

Classic Italian Sausage Sandwiches

Classic Italian sausage sandwiches can typically be prepared with a few ingredients that you might already have on hand. You’ll want to grill up our Italian sausages, top with sauteed white onions, sweet peppers, and finish with giardiniera on a fresh roll. Grilled-up Italian sausage sandwiches are perfect for cookouts all summer long and serve well with a crisp bottle of white wine from our marketplace.

Spicy Italian Sausage Pasta

You’ll want to pick up some of our hot Italian sausages to prepare spicy Italian sausage pasta! Spicy Italian sausage pasta incorporates penne pasta, fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, heavy cream, white wine, and fresh parmesan cheese for an easy weeknight meal. You’ll want to cook penne pasta until it’s al dente. Then, take the sausage meat out of the casings and crumble it into a skillet with fresh garlic and olive oil. Cook until browned and set aside. Next, cook fresh tomatoes with chopped basil and add your desired seasonings. Add a little heavy cream with a splash of dry white wine and return the browned sausage to create your sauce. Top penne with sauce and grated parm. Enjoy!
