Authentic Italian pizza is known for its delicious flavors. But what else makes an Italian pizza authentic? The answer lies in the pizza’s five different levels: the base, sauce, cheese, toppings, and the chef! Read on to learn how you can spot authentic Italian pizza.
Authentic Italian pizza will have a lighter, crispier, thinner, and tastier crust than “American-style” pizza. Creating this authentic base relies on the use of Italian pizza flour, type ’00,’ the finest and most refined available. Then, the kneading of the dough and its time in our brick pizza oven is crucial for creating that tasty crust we all love. This Neapolitan style pizza is our most popular, although we do have Sicilian thick crust pizza as well. All our pizzas can be taken home hot and ready to eat or partially baked and finished in your own oven!
Delicious Italian pizza sauce is quite simple, consisting of fresh tomatoes, some salt, basil, and olive oil for an original and subtle taste.
Most all the pizzas at Giolitti’s start with parmesan cheese and finish with a high-quality shredded mozzarella for optimum creaminess. If margherita pizza is more your style, we use parmesan and our house-made mozzarella slices.
Once the cheese, sauce, and crust are established, you can add traditional Italian toppings like pepperoni, homemade sausage, onions and black olives. Or if you want to get more experimental, try one of our artisan pizzas. These include toppings such as prosciutto, sauteed mushrooms, ricotta, gorgonzola cheese and fresh spinach. Our online dinner menu has suggestions for our favorite combinations!
Finally, the pizza chef who brings together these fantastic elements is key for creating authentic Italian pizza. The chefs at Giolitti Deli are Italian food fans that are dedicated to bringing authentic Italian flavors to the Annapolis, MD community. Stop on by and try one of our own Italian pizzas!
