Did you know that May is National Salad Month? As the weather starts to warm up, more people are craving a light and tasty meal with plenty of vegetables and natural ingredients. While salads can seem boring, a quality salad with creamy dressing, cheese, and crisp lettuce and vegetables is the perfect meal! Come into Giolitti Deli to try our lunch and dinner salads made with homemade dressing- and don’t forget to ask about our weekly salad special!

Greek Salad

Greek salad is always a good lunch choice, as it contains various fresh vegetables and a lot of delicious feta cheese. Our Greek salad is made with romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives, pepperoncini, feta cheese, and topped with our homemade Greek dressing. If you love feta, you can order extra cheese for only $.75! All of our salads are served with a slice of our house bread and can be ordered with grilled chicken, American tuna salad, or Italian tuna salad for a small upcharge.

Giolitti Deli’s Caesar Dressing

There’s nothing better than a classic Caesar salad! Add grilled chicken on top of the romaine lettuce, croutons, and shaved parmesan to create a filling and healthy meal. If you’re interested in making Caesar dressing from scratch, we’re sharing our homemade dressing recipe below:

  • 4 anchovy fillets packed in oil, drained
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Kosher salt
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, plus more
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons finely grated or shaved imported Parmesan (we recommend Reggiano or Grana Padana)
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Start by chopping together anchovy fillets, garlic, and a pinch of salt. Use the side of a knife blade to mash into a paste, then scrape the mixture into a medium bowl. Whisk in egg yolks, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and mustard. Adding drop by drop to start, gradually whisk in olive oil, then vegetable oil, and whisk until dressing is thick and glossy. Whisk in the Parmesan, then season with salt, pepper, and more lemon juice, if desired. Top your salad with homemade croutons (or buy croutons from Giolitti Deli), and you have a tasty Caesar salad!
